The Halloween pumpkin and squash jam

The pumpkin and squash jam

Red kuri squash has a chestnut flavour that pumpkin does not. Cooked in a copper cauldron with macadamia nuts, it makes a thick jam, halfway between sweet and savoury.

A limited edition that comes back only once a year, and disappears in early November.

On toast at breakfast, or with a fresh cheese at the end of a meal.

Our savoury spreads for Halloween

A Halloween evening rarely ends around a tray of sweets, at least not for the adults.

Aubergine and rosemary spread — the most crowd-pleasing, the one that goes first on a table.

Toasted bread, a few raw vegetables, and the buffet holds all evening with no cooking.

Olive, the safe bet for the evening

Green olive and almond spread — the almond rounds off the bitterness of the olive and makes it approachable even for those who usually avoid it.

It goes with the squash jam better than you would expect: sweet-and-savoury works in both directions.

It is also the one that keeps best once opened.

Gift boxes and ideas to offer

To turn up at someone’s door on the evening of the 31st, the build-your-own box lets you slip the Sortilège in beside two or three more classic flavours.

The aperitif spreads box settles the question in one go: four savoury spreads, nothing to prepare.

It is the time of year when you can give squash jam without looking like you are cooking seasonally on purpose.
