Pineapple and strawberry jam recipe

Ingredients

How about making a homemade Strawberry & Pineapple jam? First of all, do have a look at our previous article on the essentials to know for a successful homemade jam.

Ingredients for 4 jars of 200g:

  • A 500g punnet of strawberries
  • 1 Victoria pineapple
  • 400 to 500g of jam sugar

Equipment

  • A wide, heavy-bottomed pan (a pressure cooker pot, for instance)
  • A wooden spoon
  • A skimmer
  • A paring knife
  • A serrated knife for the pineapple
  • 4 empty jam jars

Instructions

- Rinse the strawberries and hull them. Cut them into pieces as large or as small as you like! (If you do not care for pieces, you can blend the jam at the end of cooking);

- Cut off the pineapple crown and remove the skin (along with all the little eyes). Cut the pineapple flesh into pieces;

- Put the fruit and the sugar in a heavy-bottomed pan, wide enough for the job (ours is a little small here, but the big pan was already in use!);

- Cook over a high heat and boil for about 5 minutes, stirring;

- Skim off the foam on the surface (it is very good to eat, too!);

- Give it a turn with a stick blender if you do not care for pieces (here we kept the pieces, to eat it with yoghurt);

- Pour the boiling jam into the jam jars (tip: use a jug so as not to get it everywhere, and fill the jars to 2 mm from the rim);

- Close with the lid and turn the jars upside down. Leave them to cool, then rinse them under water to remove any drips.

Well done! You have just made your first jars!
