How to sterilize a Jar ? The Complete Guide
La Chambre presents three methods for sterilizing jars, a crucial step for keeping your jams in perfect condition: the classic water method, the microwave method, or the oven method.
Ingredients
- Glass jars with lids (clean and suitable for sterilization).
- A large pot or stockpot (deep enough to fully submerge the jars).
- Hot water (for cleaning and sterilizing).
- A clean dish towel (to air-dry the jars).
Optional but Useful Accessories: A jam funnel (to fill jars without spills). An electric sterilizer (a convenient alternative if available). A kitchen thermometer (to check the temperature of jams if needed).
Instructions
Step 1: Gather Your Equipment
- Glass jars with their lids.
- A large pot or stockpot.
- Jar tongs (optional but handy).
- A clean dish towel.
Step 2: Clean the Jars
- Wash your jars and lids with hot, soapy water.
- Rinse them thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
Step 3: Sterilize the Jars
- Place the jars and lids in a large pot.
- Fill the pot with water until the jars are completely submerged.
- Bring the water to a boil and let it boil for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Dry the Jars
- Remove the jars from the water using jar tongs or sturdy kitchen tongs.
- Place them upside down on a clean dish towel to air dry.
Step 5: Fill and Seal the Jars
- Immediately pour your hot jam into the sterilized jars.
- Seal the jars with the lids while they are still hot to ensure proper preservation.
Step 6: Check the Sterilization
